From rich orientation programming, to mentoring from advisors and experienced consultants and Analysis Group University (AGU) courses and trainings, every data scientist has an array of opportunities to learn, grow, and advance. The firm also offers LinkedIn Learning courses and certifications to help data scientists develop their skills.
AG Orientation: All new full-time employees attend an annual orientation in Boston. Orientation features speeches from senior staff, small group discussions, and social events. New employees return to work with a greater understanding of our history, work, culture, and people, as well as an expanded network of peers and resources to help them succeed at our firm.
Analysis Group University (AGU): All employees can access our centralized online learning portal and view hundreds of training videos, presentations, and other targeted training content on demand. Technical and nontechnical trainings are available.
Writing Workshop: This workshop covers foundational principles of good writing for all consultants. Our consultants must often prepare high-quality written documents that summarize complex analyses for nontechnical audiences. This workshop helps associates and data scientists alike develop structural writing skills and improve outlining, drafting, and self-editing skills.
Case Management Workshop: This cross-office leadership program is designed for tenured associates and senior data scientists at Analysis Group. It provides information and tools essential for navigating the case manager role effectively. Through the workshop, participants make connections with senior staff and peers and build communities to facilitate successful case management.
Opportunities for Advancement
Career development at Analysis Group includes opportunities for growth in technical skills as well as in project management, analytical strategy, and collaborative business development, with support and mentorship from senior staff tailored to individual interests and skill sets. While we hire directly for the roles of data scientist and senior data scientist, analysts at the firm have also stepped up into this position. Data scientists have the potential to grow into leadership roles at AG, including data science director, vice president, principal, and managing principal.
Many data scientists also develop leadership and case management skills through pro bono case work. Please see our Pro Bono at Analysis Group page for details.
The Review Process
Everyone at Analysis Group has a hand in helping peers and colleagues grow and develop in their careers. The firm takes the annual performance review process very seriously. Supporting each other in our long-term development is central to our continued success.
Every fall, as part of the review process, we reflect on all aspects of each employee’s performance. This includes individual and team work, project contributions, interactions with internal and external stakeholders, and firm- and community-building contributions such as advising, leading firm initiatives, and mentoring. We find that our review process contributes enormously to the cohesive, collaborative, and principled environment that makes our employees take such pride in our firm.
Analysis Group hires data science interns each summer. Data science interns work on complex business problems within an inclusive and collaborative environment:
- AG case work: Throughout the summer experience, data science interns are staffed on real case work to gain exposure to our projects. Responsibilities are equivalent to a full-time data scientist or senior data scientist.
- Summer programming: Over the course of the experience, the intern cohort attends topical presentations to get to know the firm, our work, our people, and our practice areas. Analysis Group also hosts senior staff touchpoints so that interns can network with leaders at the firm to learn about their career paths and our culture.
- Mentorship: Providing a strong support system from day one is very important to us. Interns have a peer mentor and advisor who guide them through their summer experience, support them through onboarding, and help them network with individuals outside their direct team.
- Evaluation and assessment: As they conclude their internships, interns are evaluated for the opportunity to return to Analysis Group as full-time data scientists. If interns are offered a full-time position and accept, the firm will invest in their professional development and growth.
Analysis Group has an internal labor market. You will be placed on a case team when you join. From there, you can build connections and find new case work based on your interests and support from our staffing coordinators. Some data scientists work primarily within one practice, whereas others choose to gain experience across a variety of practices and case types.
You will have plenty of opportunities to work with other data scientists at Analysis Group, but you will also interact with senior staff, law firms, industry leaders, and experts within the field.
